Health Promotion Settings combines the theoretical discourse of the settings approach, covering a wide range of fundamental principles, concepts and policy issues, with real life examples of settings, including workplaces, schools, neighbourhood, cities and prisons. Frameworks and processes that are actively shaping health promotion in settings in the 21st Century are documented and the ideas and research covered will provide a vital set of indicators for those who promote health in settings. Combining theory with practical examples and case studies, the authors show how a settings approach can work in practice, drawing on a range of local, national and international initiatives and coordinated projects.
Health Promotion Settings provides a rich source of ideas and case examples which highlight the challenges for promoting health in a range of contexts. Special attention is given to the workplace as both a priority area for health promotion and a key determinant of health.
Written by a highly experienced team of health promotion and public health professionals, academics and researchers, this book is essential reading for both students and practitioners working towards the improvement of health using a settings approach.

A well researched and interesting text that provides a comprehensive overview of the settings approach in health promotion. Different methods and models of working are explored through case studies. In my view the book is well structured and logically sequenced with clearly defined chapters and sub headings. -- Miss Jacky Foster * drupal *
Rare to find a text devoted to this topic but this will be very welcome by health promotion educators as research in this area is paltry also. Good coverage of basic concepts and practicalities highlighted by reference to a predictable range of ′settings′. -- Mr William Spence * drupal *
An excellent textbook for students on health promotion modules giving a complete overview of the settings approach and encouraging different ways of working. Very relevant for learning of all PH students, home and international. -- Mrs Fiona Major * drupal *
Clearly defined chapters and sub headings. Boxed aims with each chapter to hopefuly achieve by the end. Each chapter referenced so good if you just want to pick one topic and read that chapter and further research. Summary points given too. No activity boxes but chapters can used within lectures for discussion points/ group work.
A lot of writing squeezed in
A wide variety of public settings used and supported with theory, scenarios and examples that the student or public health worker can understand, adapt and utilise.
I like the use of big companies - Royal Mail and Volskwagen in the discussion of a healthy workforce. Applying health strategies to key organisations like these ones to help give a more relevant bigger picture to what Public health involves.
Would recommend reading this one for coursework
-- Mrs Gill McEwing * drupal *
